K9 Couture Boutique Closing - A Sad Time for All Dog Lovers and Our Yorkies

I received a email recently telling me that one of our favorite websites was closing at the end of this year. "K9 Couture Boutique" would no longer be open for our readers to shop at and for us to get our Yorkies harnesses and all the other items we loved.

Nicole, the owner of "K9 Couture Boutique" is a true friend and always went out of her way to help us with everything we asked of her. When we were ordering harnesses for our Yorkies she took the time to walk us through all the details and steps to assure us a perfect fit for all 3 of our Yorkies. This kind of customer service is a rarity and her caring heart will be missed. Nicole was very kind to us at "Waterside Yorkies", she even gave us our own discount code to pass on to our readers so they too could enjoy her website and get some great items for their pets.As of January 1st of 2011 we won't be able to go shopping with our Yorkies on one of their favorite sites. We were lucky when we found a new website and great source for books that all pet lovers will enjoy. Books that not only stimulate your mind but touch your heart as well. We love our animals...our Yorkies are our "furbabies"...they are part of our family....and act like it at times.
The site we found is "Lighthearted Press". And the author is Christine Davis, a true animal lover, for her passion is to elevate her readers into a whirlwind of emotions that pulls you into the lives of the animals you are reading about.

We got two books to read to the Yorkies....yes, I know reading to dogs is silly...welcome to our world. We will also read one of them to Nana's school kids. They too will love the story of Hero and experience the touching feelings of the story and the illustrations will stimulate their hearts and minds.

We received "The Shelter Dog" - A simple book that tells the story of an angel dog, Hero, who comes back to earth to begin the experience of being adopted. The illustrations are beautiful and will help you follow the story of Hero and how he finds his forever home. You'll want to read it again and again for it will touch your heartstrings for sure.

The second book we got was - "For Every Dog An Angel", the Yorkies will enjoy it but we won't read it to the kids at school for it touches the loss of a pet...something a little too personal for schoolkids to be taught at school. But we will offer the book to parents if they are interested. We got it because we have many friends who have suffered the loss of a pet. A loss that we have felt many times but know that we will see our pets again some day. The book tells the story of the deep love between a dog and their owner....a love that's forever indeed.

So please check out "Lighthearted Press" and enjoy all of Christine Davis's books. Tucker Gets A Royal Pet Club Treatment

Well, between fostering a pair of Yorkie rescue's, taking care of the three we already had and life in general we have been very busy around the Waterside Yorkie's house. But the Yorkies we were fostering have gone on to forever homes thanks to some very dedicated people at RescueNCYorkies . So we had a little time to go out and visit with some of our family.
And when we decided to come home we brought our daughter's Yorkie, who is Carly's brother, home for a bath. Tucker was going to have a day at the Waterside Yorkie Spa....thanks to some great shampoo, conditioner and spritz we got from Royal Pet Club (click any picture and go directly to their website).

They have released a new scent "Italian Milk And Vanilla"...smells good enough to eat, and last a long time on your pet too. So Tucker got the royal treatment and we now know why he doesn't come to visit much. But he really enjoyed getting a bath, and didn't mind smelling so nice either. He's a great dog and deserved a day at the spa and we hope he'll come back to visit us again, maybe we won't give him a bath next time...it will be just for fun with all of his relatives.

Carly Gets A New Harness From K9 Couture Boutique

Well, I guess I'll tell you all about the third harness we got for our Yorkies from K9 Couture Boutique a couple of months ago. I've already told you about the pink and black harnesses we got for Tinkerbell and Shiloh, and how they really like wearing them. When you have a pet or a herd of pets like we do, you also will have a mess or two occasionally. Finding something to help with these messes is a wonderful find. Bark Off Helps Control The Yorkie Yappers

When you see those infomercials for all those wonder products you feel a little curious sometimes. We saw the ad telling us that there was a miracle antibarking device out and that we needed it. Since we have "yappers", I mean Yorkies, we knew that excessive barking comes with the breed, terriers like to be verbal. They bark to protect us, bark to talk to us and bark to get our attention. And we can live with a little barking, we love our animals, and their little yappy ways. But if there was a product that could help eliminate some of that extra barking, we had to try and see for ourselves. So we looked over the reviews online, checked out the safety of the device, and went ahead and got one. Bark Off is a small and portable device that uses a high pitch sound to get the dogs attention. When the dog barks it emits this sound that only dogs can hear. We then added "NO BARK" to the sound of the Bark Off and the Yorkie herd got quiet, very, very quiet. This thing is suppose to work in a safe and humane way, to both us and the dogs. We thought about trying to test out a solid white piece of wood with our dogs...but just use the Bark Off with dead batteries...the sight of the thing quiets the Yorkies...so technically it works...just not as automatic as the commercials show...if ya got it as a gift...be glad...if ya bought it...oh well, ya tried it and maybe you got better results then we did...maybe not.

Our Yorkies still bark a little, but we have the control to either allow it or turn on the Bark Off and tell them "NO BARK" and silence is ours to have. We don't leave it on all the time, since we do like to know that someone is outside our house, or let them bark at their friendly cat going by. But if the Yorkies don't stop barking after first announcing a strange noise, a cat or someone outside, we flip on the Bark Off and a little "NO BARK" and they settle down instantly. Now it might be all psychological, we might just want it to work so bad we think it's working. Anyway, something makes the dogs stop barking...maybe it's the shape of the device or maybe they can read what it says on it, "Bark Off" and they just stop barking because of that.

So now Shiloh has made peace with his new toy, well, our new toy. He will even lay down beside the Bark Off on his favorite Redskin blanket. The Yorkies have been trained to quiet down just by seeing the Bark Off come out. And if they don't stop barking within our set time limits, a flip of the switch, a little "NO BARK" and silence is ours again. We know it's a combination of the voice commands and them seeing the device, but hey if it works...we got something for our money. We just don't buy batteries for it anymore...just the sight of the device and our "NO BARK" works...but we would have had this outcome if we hadn't tried the Bark Off device.

The Waterside Yorkies get some treats from Little Badness

We had to get some of these treats for the Yorkies...there's a picture of Gatsby, the CPO (Chief Pooch Officer) on the package...and he's a Yorkie; they have to be good. So we looked over Little Badness' All Natural Dog Treats' website, read all about what these treats were made of, read about Gatsby and how his owners developed these treats to help his sensitive stomach. Now came the hard part for us, try and choose which flavors our Yorkies would like to try. So we did what any reasonable pet owner would do, get them all.So when the box arrived our Yorkies helped us unpack the treats. How they knew the box was for them we don't know, maybe they smelled the treats inside. We made them line them up so we could see what we got and let them choose which ones they wanted to try first. Again they picked all 5, but we held our ground this time and only picked 2.

First round of Little Badness treats would be the Blueberry Anti-Oxidant treats, with pieces of blueberries in each treat. Blueberries are known to be a good source to help boost the immune system, help fight diseases, and even help inhibit mechanisms of cancer cell development. Blueberries even help heart disease and have been used to fight memory loss. As they say on their website, "good things do come in small packages".

Our second choice to get the Yorkies started in treatland was the Smoked Salmon treats. Now if Carly eats these they must be good.....ok...where did that treat go? Carly come back here....wait...she's eating it....no she ate it....yep....it's gone. Who would think that Carly, our queen of finicky eating, would gobble it down, that whole big treat....that whole big SALMON treat. It must be beyond good, it must be great. So we broke up the next one and gave it to Shiloh and Tinkerbell, "Miss Piggyhog" Carly already had her share, plus some. The other Yorkies gobbled it down and came up for more. But they will have to wait til another day, too much of a good thing would spoil these dogs and we couldn't have that, could we?

The Salmon treats are high in essential omega-3 fatty acids which will help your dogs' coat, skin and joints. And they don't smell fishy either. They smell like home-baked cookies from your mom's house, wholesome, fresh and tasty and despite what Carly says, these cookies should be broken up and divided between the Yorkies for portion control...understand Carly...portion control.

Oh great, now Shiloh's begging for more...come on dogs give me a break....I know you love these things..but you can't have more right now. Maybe if you clean up your toys and pick up around your dog bowl we'll give you a little more later. No Tinkerbell you can't operate the vacuum, you're smaller than the hose nozzle and might suck yourself into the vacuum....just keep sweeping with that broom you got. Who knew that all it would take is a little bribery to get the Yorkies to help around the house.

No More Car Sickness Since We Found "Calming Collars" For Our Yorkie.

When you have to travel and one of your dogs doesn't like to go anywhere in a car it becomes a situation that starts your day off on the wrong foot. So when we found the "Calming Collars" website that stated that they had a collar that not only worked, but worked "naturally", so we had to see for ourselves. Click on the "Calming Collars" header we used up above and check them out for yourself. We have had Yorkies for many years and Shiloh is the only one we have ever had that goes "green" when he gets in a car. Short or long car rides doesn't make a difference, he hates cars, the motion in the car, and the passing scenery out the window....everytime he turns "green". So we thought we would give their "Good To Go Calming Collar" a try.

In the example below you will notice that is comes with a 2 channel width, but since we have Yorkies we got the single channel width. They also have a 4 channel width for bigger dogs. And in the picture below you will see that it blended in with his fur and wasn't bulky at all. You really couldn't see it unless you dug around his neck looking for it. We didn't want to embarrass him on top of everything else.

But just how does this collar work? And is it safe for our dog to wear, what if he knocks it off and the other dogs tear it up?

It uses aromatherapy, the scent of the different herbs used calms the animal down. On their website they state that they have a better than 95% success rate. Pretty impressive we thought, so we let Shiloh give it a try. And if by some chance he gets it off his neck the herbs inside aren't harmful if ingested. This is good to know, especially if you own Yorkies...they love to tear things up...must be the terrier in them.
Shiloh seem to be doing better as we were putting it on him. Maybe he knew it was going to make his life a lot better and make our lives better too. No more turning "green", panting like a wild dog, pacing back and forth on the car seats.
Soon he laid down and stopped panting. He slowly began to just rest calmly in our laps, peaceful and comfortable. Shiloh rode the whole trip without being sick, we will test it again in the weeks to come. We may have solved the motion sickness problem we had with our Yorkie.

We read on the website that if you don't leave it on the dog all the time, you could put it back in the plastic bag and it will keep almost a year before it loses its effectiveness.

So if you have a dog or a cat that suffers from motion sickness we recommend you give "Calming Collars" a try. And soon you will be able to travel carefree without cat stress or dog anxiety.

The only problem now is we have to hide the car keys or Shiloh might take one of the cars on a true joy ride.

When we posted a few weeks ago we told everyone about the new harness we got for Tinkerbell. Yorkshire Terriers are known to be big pullers, they love to tug, twist and jerk. The new harness we got Tinkerbell has really made her settle down. Great results and great style too.

The Yorkies have gone "Clean+Green". (Helping to save the world and our carpet)

When you have Yorkies, Westies, or any doggies, you have alot of extra things too. Pet stains go with pet ownership, you learn to live with that spot or spots. Eventually, you get to cleaning the spots, now you can also use a cleaner that is "Green" and non-toxic.
On their webpage they state that "Clean+Green" is the only eco-friendly aerosol pet odor remover and pet stain product on the planet. And that they offer a line of "Green" cleaning supplies to remove stains, eliminate odors and help with pet accidents.
We decided to help save our world and our carpet and give their products a try. Trying to be a environmentally freindly home is all of our responsibility, we owe it to ourselves, our kids and our pets.So we looked over their website and read all about what goes into their products, or should I say what doesn't go into their products. We were really impressed with the wide variety of products they offer. We decided to pick out a few for us to us and a few for our family and friends.

We picked out the Clean+Green - Auto Cleaner and the Clean+Green Carpet & Upholstery
Stain Remover for us to try and use. We have had Yorkies for almost 20 years, and with Yorkies comes a problem...bitty bladders. They try to be good dogs, hold it til they go out. But they will make a mistake every now and then.

When you look up Yorkshire Terriers in any dog book you will be told of one of their biggest problems, Tracheal Collapse. This is usually caused by your Yorkie pulling like a mule, like ours, or their collars are too small, restricting their necks. It is a very serious problem that most small dogs have, but we recommend them to all dog owners. And they look so cute in them too.

The first harness we will tell you about is the New Ultra USA Non-Choking Step-In Dog Harness in Salmon Rose color and in extra-small size....Tinkerbell is our smallest Yorkie at 3 pounds but pulled like a mule...she has really settled down since we got her this harness. She's getting use to it and it's really nice not having her pull you all over the yard, Thanks Nicole, great suggestion and perfect fit.

It is really easy to use too, just slip it on the dogs front legs, wrap it around the body with the velcro flaps and snap it on the back of the dog with the heavy duty buckle. And with the 2 D-rings your leash will firmly hold your dog from pulling you, and hurting themselves.

Now, we tried to take some cute pictures of Tinkerbell wearing her harness, but she hates, hates the camera. How a dog so cute can be camera shy is beyond us. So we used the pictures from the website to show how it fits.

We tested it at the beach where she would have pulled us to the ocean's edge chasing birds, crabs or whatever else she saw. But not this time, we have a winner.....the little mule has been tamed...well, it might take a little longer, but we really love this harness on her.

We know she has learned not to pull so much when we put it on her. She is almost posing for this picture...we said almost.

And you can see the buckle part of the harness that makes a great handle to lift your dog when a larger animal or bird comes along. We could have used really tiny harnesses on our puppies last year. We had a litter of 4 and when a large hawk flew over...we grabbed the puppies the best way we could...2 people scrambling around trying to get the puppies up, and the 3 adult Yorkies, and as the hawk flew away and we went inside to safety.

The Yorkies Got Some Handmade Custom Outfits From Denver Doggie Duds

The Yorkies are looking mighty fine in their new duds they got this week. Carly was surfin' the net when she came across a website called "Denver Doggie Duds". She liked what she saw and then told us to check it out, so we did.

With the temperatures in the 90's for the last 18 days the Yorkies had not been playing outside much, put took the time to try and pose for a picture together. Look this way guys...no Tinkerbell we're not going back in...she's always the first back at the door.

Bad Boy Bassett Brothers Visit The Waterside Yorkies

We found these great books online about a pair of Basset Hound brothers. They reminded us of our Yorkies, so we decided to get both books.
The first one is called "Stanley & Norman bad boy bassett brothers" and is written by Frank Monahan and is illustrated by Deborah FitzGerald. They grab at your heart strings as you fall in love with the two brothers. You will learn some of life's lesson as the brothers go through trial and error. Each page comes to life as your read and follow the pair on their journey.

The second book is called "Stanley & Norman: bassett brothers backyard buddies". This tells the story of the two brothers as they try and make some new friends in the outside world. A trip that leads them and you into discovering the wonders of the world.

Both are excellent books, and were received very well by the Yorkies...by the time we read the first book they fell asleep for their afternoon nap. We had to finish it later that evening...what you don't read to your dogs....come on...we know we're not alone.

So we read the second book the next day and the Yorkies loved it too...we knew they would. We only hope that some of the lesson's in the storylines rub-off on them. Yorkies and Bassett's are very similar in being adventurist.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Happy Father's Day to all the Father's out in blogland. If you love Yorkies, and happen to be a Father, you must be full of love and kindness and be confident in yourself, I know at 6'4" it takes a little getting use to when people see my 3 lb Yorkie with me trailing behind her. Or the other 2 Yorkies at 5 lbs...people stare, look and wonder why does he have such tiny dogs, a big man should have larger dogs. These people don't know a Yorkies love. For I am a Yorkie owner, and a Father to our Yorkie herd, a Father to our children, and "Pawpaw" to our grandchildren.

Someone once said "sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inherantance".

The role of being a father is to inspire, coach and guide his children. To show them how to go down life's path, falling sometimes, but always getting up and trying again. A father sometimes raises his children, like his garden, only weeding when needed, providing nurishment and protection from life's pests. And in the end, his reward is a crop full of love and fulfillment, he may not say he needs anything in return, but he does, and gets it whenever he looks at his children's face, knowing he did his best, tried his hardest, to provide a better life for his children.

So go call your dad, your father, the man in your life who will always love you, always protect you and will always need you as much as you need him.

And all you dad's.....remember this is just one day of a full year of life. Our jobs never have a holiday, a day-off or a time out. We have to do whatever it takes, whenever it takes us to provide and love our children.

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's....I hope this day is a grand one for you and please come back and visit us again. Now turn off the computer and go play with your kids, your grandkids, even the dogs...enjoy life to the fullest and tell your kids you love them each day and everyday.

Grandma Bowser's Country Oven Bisquits - For Very Good Dogs and Yorkies Too.

When the doorbell rang the Yorkies went nuts as usual. They didn't know what was on the other side of the door. A boxful of treats for them...I bet they feel bad about all that noise. Barking like they did at the Mailman...he might not bring them any more boxes of treats.
And these weren't just any treats..they were "Grandma Bowser's Country Oven Bisquits". They are suppose to be for "Very Good Dogs", so the Yorkies are out of luck...ok...I'll give them their treats.As I was opening the box...Carly started to dance around like music was on and it was her time to shine. Her nose must have told her what was ahead for her stomach. We got 2 of the 4 different varieties of biscuits..I mean bisquits, that they sell. Hey as good as these treats are I'm not gonna change the name of them, bisquits they are. Doesn't the label tell you all you need to know...we loved the phrase "It's Like A Granola Bar For Dogs". They smelled fantastic...we were tempted ourselves...but the Yorkies would have had a hissy fit for sure.Make sure you go to http://www.grandmabowsers.com/ and check out their bisquits...if your dogs are like ours they will love them too. To Breed Or Not To Breed Our Yorkies? How "Yorkie Splash and Shine" Helped Answer The Question

When life sends you lemons your suppose to make lemonade...when the road ahead of you is bumpy you are to hold on and give it gas, and when you can't decide on breeding your Yorkie...the dog angels send you a sign...well in this case...a package of "Yorkie Splash and Shine" shampoo and conditioner.We had been talking about letting Carly have a "date" and having a litter for this summer. Some people were asking about the next litter, getting one of our pups, when we planned to breed again...this had to be the sign we were waiting for. And a refreshing and helpful sign it was. This shampoo and conditioner is made from organic ingredients and Carly smells so nice...so, so nice. And with the sample pack we got comes a detangler spray that we will be testing on Shiloh...his fur is like barbed wire if we let it go too long and usually we do. It's our fault not his...he's a Yorkie...loves to play and roll and roll...if we don't brush him...it's our fault. So if this helps him we will let you know later...right now we are working on Carly...and her "date".

The shampoo smells so good....and we know that it will take more than just one bath to really do it any justice...on the website it says 3-4 weeks, not 3-4 minutes...it's good shampoo, but not a miracle. But we got really great results, so we believe already. And look at Carly...relaxed and hoping.

She was and is a great Yorkie Mommy...her last litter was beautiful and she did a great job taking care of them. So how can we not breed her...people are asking about puppies....we love having puppies...and the Yorkie angels made our package arrive just in time to get Carly beautiful and ready.

Ok...ok..Carly, we see you...and this was before the bath...she asked us for a bath...maybe this stuff is magical after all. It made Carly want a bath...or was it the possibility of a "date".

So we will probably be breeding our Yorkie this weekend or very soon...between our Yorkie Splash and Shine products and the great results we got from them...it must be the world asking for more "Waterside Yorkies" to be born.

The Yorkies got a package full of fun...well fun for us, and took time to model some of the items for us. We found a pet merchandise website called Spiffy Pooches that sells collars, charms, bows and all kinds of great items for your dogs needs.

Tinkerbell tried to pose for us, but she hates...I mean hates to have her picture taken. She will never make it as a dog model..the world will have to just miss out. She settled down a little outside, as we tried to get her to pose...take it quick...she's on the move. And as playful and wild as she can be...the bow stayed in her hair...elegant and beautiful.

Shiloh even took a turn as a model...he doesn't mind the camera....he only minds wearing things...hats, clothes or bows...but he was a trooper and it looks great on him. I think he doesn't feel a boy should be wearing bows in his hair or something like that....but hey we were able to snap this one before he moved away.

So Carly didn't get a turn this time, but will be wearing some of the new bows we got. Tinkerbell and Shiloh enjoyed all the attention and did a great job for us. We have more pictures but didn't want to post them all.

Shiloh and Carly were very happy when the UPS man rang the doorbell and delivered their package. They were like 2 kids at Christmas...they must have smelled the fun inside that box.
We had found a new site to try some treats and toys for our Yorkies, "Licks and Giggles Boutique". A very cool site that is run by people who think of their animals as family...who would ever think like that...oh yeah..we do.

We got a few treats and some toys for the Yorkies...and boy did they have fun with them. The toys were just the right size for the Yorkies to play with. Shiloh loves the tootsie roll one, wherever it is...Shiloh is very near. Tinkerbell and Carly play with the other two, they share better than Shiloh does.

Here's Shiloh, as usual, on the Redskin blankets and with his tootsie roll toy nearby....you might think this was staged....it wasn't...he's that spoiled believe me. The Yorkies let us live with them it feels like at times.

Yorkies with "happytails"

Well we never would have believed it if we hadn't seen it for ourselves...our Yorkies loved to have a bath...no not just a bath...a spa treatment. We recently found a site that we were eager to try, Happytails Canine Spa Line . A place not just to owners of pets to find everything they need to care for their animals, but a place for the truly pampered pet....like ours and like yours. Ok...so Tinkerbell doesn't look very happy in this photo...but believe me she really did enjoy being rubbed and washed. And when she was all done, she pranced around the house for days like a showdog. And she smelled so clean and her fur was like silk.

We also got some "Sleepytime Tonic" for Shiloh...the King of drama when it comes to car rides. He almost turns green when we put him in the car...hates it. We have only tried short rides so far...and he seems to be better...we'll have to blog again later when we take a long trip...but what's really funny is that the other two Yorkies want drops too...they love the stuff...must be made with liquid beef or something...we'll get back to you with the results of our first long trip.

The "Fur Butter" has the perfect name...and it is true..goes on like butter. And when your done your dog will have the softest fur around. The "Fur Butter" conditions your dogs coat and repairs any damage to it. It also will help your dog with any itchy skin problems also. There is oatmeal and aloe in it to further solve any skin problems....highly recommended for Yorkies who have the itchy's.

We also got a bottle of "Dry Dog" instant clean, a miracle in a bottle. Now if your dogs are like ours they will find something to get into that makes them stink to high heaven...and always away from home. With "Dry Dog" instant clean you just spray a little on and it starts to clean without water or fuss. It's not a complete dog wash in a bottle, but will eliminate and clean your dog until you can take them home and wash them completely...we have used this on Carly, our sniffer, and she has given it a major testing...it passed with flying colors...it not only eliminated the smell, but broke down the odor. Leaving Carly refreshed and renewed, until we could get her home to further bathe her. Everyone needs a bottle of this stuff in their car, their purse, and just around the house for that time when company is coming and your dog gets into something right before they get there.

But the best thing we found was "Bubbles 'N Beads" shampoo and conditioner....it has little beads

packed with conditioning vitimins. They penetrate the fur and burst against their skin, delivering the nutrients where they are needed most, at the follicle. The result is unbelievable, a healthy and shinier coat that smells so wonderful that you and the dog will look forward to the next time to use it. Winter 2010...A Yorkies "Tail" of the Snow Storm

Ok....first that stupid gopher didn't see his shadow...what oh yeah that stupid groundhog..whatever...all I know is that I gotta survive 6 more weeks of winter....hey I'm only 3 pounds and only a inch off the ground...I'm staying in my dogcave...nice and warm here. My master is from the D.C. area...I heard on the news that they got swamped with 20 plus inches of snow....poor dogs up there.

I can't even think of trying to go do my business in weather like that...look at this street up in D.C. where do the dogs go?

Here have a seat and think about it....that's like 3 times my height...makes me cold thinking about it.

They said that the Washington Monument is at the top of this picture...I don't see it...I think someone took it. They better bring it back too.

Here's some tourists walking by the White House...a fitting name today...hope they get inside soon...too cold for even people to be outside.

And here's the President and Vice-President shoveling the White House sidewalk...you would think they would get someone else to do all that...but my Master has to shovel his sidewalk too.

We only got rain this time...we got 6 inches last week and I hated going outside...I am only 2 years old and I had never seen snow like this before....and I really don't want to again. I'm a Yorkie not a Husky...I like warm days and warm nights...not snow.

That's Shiloh's favorite fire hydrant if you know what I mean...in the snow he hopes around like a rabbit...can't find that perfect spot in the snow.

All this yard and nowhere to go....and I had to go bad too. But my owners have alot of patience and love us...so they wait with us no matter how long it takes.

They thought by putting me in this pile of snow I would learn what snow was...I already knew...it's fluffy rain but colder and harder on a Yorkie...now get me out of this snow and back inside where a Princess belongs.

I hope everyone is doing ok up in D.C. and that that rat...I mean groundhog was wrong...I would like Spring to be here maybe by the end of this month, or early next month. 2010 Started With A Bang, Or Was It A Boom

Well, the new year has begun....we hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and have begun the year with all their wishes coming true.We visited family, had family come to the house and enjoyed the time spent with all. Below is a group shot of our Yorkies....4 generations of "Waterside Yorkies". I'll introduce them so the new readers will know who's who.

On the right is Zoe, our senior Yorkie and great-granddog. She's 13 years young and going strong. She loves to come visit us, she lives with my wife's mom, they keep each other company.

Next to Zoe is Carly, her granddaughter, who is 4 years old and the wild one of the bunch. She gave us our last litter of pups this past spring, 5 puppies out of her little 4.5 pound frame...she was a excellent mommy. Beside her is Tinkerbell, Carly's daughter from her first litter, who is 2 years old and acts like a puppy...silly little dog, but we love her. She is truely the baby of the family, yet can hold her own with the older Yorkies. And finally, is our only male Yorkie and the King of the house...Shiloh, who is 6 years old and the protector of the house. Even with a alarm system we feel more safe since no one can come within a mile of the house without Shiloh hearing them and barking. He is our true Yorkie lap dog and everyone who visits loves him to death. So this is our "Waterside Yorkies" group shot of 2009, 4 generations of Yorkshire Terrier love, our "Herd of Yorkies".
We also got to spend a bunch of time with our non-fur babies....Maddy came to visit Nana and Pawpaw. She has grown into a very beautiful young lady, and at 4 months is already turning the boys heads. We love her "That Girl" hair...and her smile still melts my heart and always will. I see my mom in her eyes and on her face...Matt's Memaw would have loved this little girl and is watching over her from Heaven I know. We look forward to spring and watching her start to walk around.

We also got to see our grandson, Ryder, who just turned 1 not too long ago. He has grown so much this past year. Walking, talking and running the house...he's moved into the next daycare room and I believe will be a politician...always wanting to meet and greet everyone he see's.

Opening gifts is very tiring, he had to have a snack to keep the motor running strong. This spring will be a very fun time for us, we will enjoy watching and playing with both of our grandkids. After all, we are just kids ourselves...well we think so.
So we survived the holidays, enjoyed the holidays and hope yours were special too. And as I sit with the Yorkies I reflect on what a wonderful time we all spent together.

Oh, yeah...did you heart a big thud not too long ago....guess who fell over Tinkerbell and hurt his foot....2 guesses and it wasn't Nana...yep the big guy got tripped up by the littliest Yorkie in the house. She's only 3 pounds but she took me down fast..like a tree falling...with a loud thud at the end...like the old Roadrunner cartoons except I didn't have a small umbrella to break my fall.

Here's Carly looking over the damage and trying to play doctor...or maybe she's trying to play lawyer...anyway, she took time out to check me out.

Yes Carly I know I have a large black object on my left foot...it's a gift from your daughter..and no I'm not going to press charges...she didn't mean to trip me up. She just has to learn not to run between our feet when we come into a room, any room, but she acts like we have been gone for years. She loves us so much...a very big heart in a 3 pound dog.

So that's my first update for 2010...I will be alright...just need to left it heal and soon I will be chasing the grandkids and the furkids again. The 2009 Year is coming to an end...Yorkie style

Well the 2009 year is coming to an end and what a year it has been...I hope you all survived it. Let's just hope that 2010 is a little better for the economy, for health care and for jobs and housing....and for everything else we need.

Our Christmas was very good to us, to our family and we hope it was good for you too. It comes and goes so fast. Now we have to take the tree down soon and move on to the next holiday. We ae playing a few songs that we found this year that makes think of the year we just had..we hope you enjoy the music and listen to the words.

We at "Waterside Yorkies" would like to thank you for following us this year...and oh what a year it has been. We did manage to have some fun in all the craziness of this year...but we wouldn't change a thing for with all that was bad...there was alot good too.

We did enjoy going to the beach some this year....and no those aren't my footprints even if some people think so...come on...I'm only a size 13, and that's not me either standing there..it's a funny picture people...ahhh nevermind. Let's move on...Tinkerbell got her favorite toy this year...a cat...I mean a dog house...yeah...a dog house. She even lets Shiloh and Carly use it to get onto the couch. And Carly had her puppies this year...she gave us 5 beautiful puppies, the "fab five", that we found great homes for. We really enjoyed the puppies and have gotten great photos and stories from the people who got them. Some are riding boats, some on motorcycles...a tough life for them isn't it. But Yorkies are suppose to be spoiled right?

And speaking of puppies...we have a even bigger addition to our family....Madelyn Audrey was born this summer. She is our first granddaughter and is the most beautiful babygirl I have ever seen. She is growing up fast and we hope she slows down alittle..her smile will melt your heart, it does mine.

She lives not that far from us so we get to see her often...and the Yorkies love it when she comes. Carly thinks she is one of her puppies still...whenever Maddy cries Caryl comes a running. Worried to death that something major is wrong...it's a beautiful thing. And speaking of beautiful...isn't baby Maddy precious....we think so too.

And our grandson, Ryder, turned "1" this year...he has grown into a little man....walking, talking and turning into a toddler. It seems like only yesterday we were at the hospital waiting for his birth...now he's walking....time has gone by quickly for sure.

We have enjoyed watching him grow up this year...he's still his mom's "little goose", despite his independence he has gotten this past year. I still enjoy seeing his smile when we first see each other...it makes my day. Handsome little man isn't he...oh yeah..he knows it too. He flirts whenever we go out to eat with his parents...unreal...only 1 year old and a player already.

So we have been blessed this year despite all the problems in the world. Oh we had a few major bumps in the road, but it's been a road that we enjoyed traveling on. Puppies, family and grandkids...all things that made us smile even when things were not so grand.
And when we think something is really bad, we just look at our grandkids and know that things will work out for us. And that we have a lot of love in our family.

Puppies and grandkids have been a big part of this year for us and we have enjoyed telling you about them. We hope you will come back next year and see what is ahead for all of us at "Waterside Yorkies".

We have grown alot ourselves this year...we started blogging so our friends and family could see what was going on in our lives. Then we added "Waterside Yorkies" to tell people about our Yorkies and share their lives with the world. Little did we know we would get a bunch of emails,touch people like we have and win awards. I am no great writer...only a man who loves his family, his dogs and his wife.

We hope you enjoyed reading about our Yorkies, and that we helped you understand what a dog can mean to someone. We hoped you read about our friend who lost her dog and how we tried to help her in a time of need. The post is titled "Do Dogs Go To Heaven? A Tribute To Trixie" and we still are getting emails..little did we know who we were touching by our blog.

But I didn't blog to win awards (but they are nice), to become a great writer (no chance there anyway) or become famous (like I need that). I did it to share my love of my animals with a world that needs a little happiness in it. I hope you come back next year and follow the Yorkies and my family in the journey that the Lord has planned for us.

Tis The Season to Feed Your Yorkies

Tis the season to be a Yorkie...Fa-lalala-la-la-la-la-laa..oh forget it...it's feed the starving Yorkies of ours.

Happy Holidays to all and to all a good bite...no that won't work either...."alright come and get it"...perfect..gets them everytime.

First up is Fruitables Pumpkin and Apple dog treats...yummo...ok..I can't use that one either. Now I knew that the Yorkies liked the Pumpkin and Bananna treats we gave them awhile back, but didn''t know if they would eat ones with apples also. These are some of the treats we got from K-9 Cuisine - Premium Dog Food and have been blogging about the dogs reaction to the different treats and foods we got.
.But as soon as we got the package out they came a running..they even started to do tricks. If the treats aren't good enough by being all natural and healthy for the dogs....they automatically teach your dog tricks by some kind of internal chemistry...ok....it was that we had made them do tricks with the other treats and our dogs have learned to associate treats and tricks...can't wait til next Halloween...totally will confuse them...trick or treat....get it..sorry...had to go there.

Carly loved them so much she decided to guard the package...or is she just going to hog it all for herself when no ones looking.

They said in the advertising that great things would happen when you treat your pet with Fruitables...who knew that they didn't lie. The only problem is that they recognize the package, so could they change it from time to time, so we could have a little less staring at the bag up on the shelf...it gets crazy....they love the hints of cinnamon, vanilla and fruit...this is reorder waiting to happen.
Next on the treat list was Liver Biscotti...big flavor in small bites. We have Yorkies so we got the small bites...a wise decision. There must be a million little bites in this bag...we have been feeding them to the dogs and it never goes down.

These little bites of heaven are great for teaching the Yorkies more tricks and with ingredients of 100 % beef liver, they are trully wholesome goodness in a small bite.

Now we know not every dog will love these treats or all of the food, but with Yorkies we can honestly say they must be one of the most finicky dogs around. And our Carly could be the leader of the pickiest eaters around. So far, we haven't found one that they didn't eat. Now she wasn't too happy with the duck we gave her....but she ate it...slowly...but she did eat it along with the others. But she's been raised on lamb and rice all her life...it would be like putting lobster in front of me...no that's not a good example...I'd bite your fingers before you let go...anyway...she's picky, but she has found a lot of great treats and food since we started this series of blogs.

Do Dogs Go To Heaven? A Tribute to "Trixie"

I received a email today from someone I have never met, never talked to. Our only contact has been by emails and blogging. She read's mine and I read her's, connected by the net, both of us owning Yorkies. This is my tribute to "Trixie"...dog, pet and friend...
Well, this morning I opened up my email to find a sad one...don't like sad emails. It was from a friend, she told me she lost her dog of 10 years to illness. She was devastated, and asked me if I thought dogs go to heaven. Now talk about religious beliefs and animals, and you get looks like your totally insane. Some people believe animals don't go to Heaven, it's for humans who are seeking redemption, and since animals don't have sin, nor do they have souls, they aren't allowed in Heaven. I am a animal owner and lover, I believe...no I hope that my God does allow our animals to come to Heaven. I can't imagine Heaven without animals. My Lord allows animals, he does in my belief of the Bible. Not having anyone come back from death and tell me different, that's the way I will believe until I find out myself. I will make some mad, some won't even come back and read my blog, but that's fine. I will miss them, but I can't force them to live my beliefs as much as I won't live theirs, we all are different, yet the same at times.
I searched for a story I saw many years ago on "The Twilight Zone". It's written by Earl Hamner, and follows the storyline of a man and his dog. The man and the dog go raccoon hunting and they both fall into a lake and drown. The story goes something like this:

An old man and his dog were walking down this dirt road with fences on both sides, they come to a gate in fence and looked in, it was nice - grassy, woody areas, just what a huntin' dog and man would like, but, it had a sign saying 'No Trespassing' so they walked on.
They came to a beautiful gate with a person in white robes standing there. "Welcome to Heaven" he said. The old man was happy and started in with his dog following him.
The gatekeeper stopped him. "Dogs aren't allowed, I'm sorry but he can't come with you." The old man asked "What kind of Heaven won't allow dogs? If he can't come in, then I will stay out with him. He's been my faithful companion all his life, I can't desert him now." The gatekeeper responded "Suit yourself, but I have to warn you, the Devil's on this road and he'll try to sweet talk you into his area, he'll promiss you anything, but, the dog can't go there either. If you won't leave the dog, you'll spend Eternity on this road." The man and his dog went on.
They walked awhile and came to a rundown fence with a gap in it, no gate, just a hole. Another old man was inside. "Scuse me Sir, my dog and I are getting mighty tired, mind if we come in and sit in the shade for awhile?" "Of course, there's some cold water under the tree over there. Make yourselves comfortable." "You sure my dog can come in? The man down the road said dogs aren't allowed anywhere." "Would you come in if you had to leave the dog?" "No Sir, that's why I didn't go to Heaven, he said the dog couldn't come in. We'll be spending Eternity on this road, and a glass of water and some shade would be mighty fine right about now. But I won't come in if my buddy here can't come too, and that's final."
The man smiled a big smile and said "Welcome to Heaven." "You mean this is Heaven? Dogs ARE allowed? How come that fellow down the road said they weren't?"
"That was the Devil and he gets all the people who are willing to give up a life long companion for a comfortable place to stay. They soon find out their mistake, but, then it's too late. The dogs come here, the fickle people stay there. GOD wouldn't allow dogs to be banned from Heaven. After all, HE created them to be man's companions in life, why would he separate them in death?"
Wow...been years since I saw that story on TV...feels good to read it again. They don't write storylines like that anymore...reality tv has replaced writers. I saw on the website a quote from Will Rogers...he said "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." Funny man, a true legend lost in time.
I told my friend the story... forgot a few things..but all in all the same story...I told her that God wouldn't give us our animals in life to be taken away and never seen again. I believe that my Rosie, my first dog I had, will be waiting for me. To rub her ears, pet her back...brush her. But that's my belief, your entitled to yours. I hope I helped my friend, made her feel a little better. I know that thinking about that story helped me, it gave me a great memory and put a smile on my face and love in my heart. I love my animals, my wife and I have had Yorkies everyday of our marriage...they have seen our good days and our bad. But they have never judged us, yelled at us or abandoned us. And when we come home, they are waiting for us...hoping for a little love, a small price to pay for a lifetime of love back. So yes, I believe dogs go to Heaven...but I am lucky I have a little bit of Heaven already in my house, and 3 Yorkies to show me what it's going to be like. And "Trixie" will be waiting for my friend...wagging her tail, waiting to lick her face and give her the love back, she had received all those 10 years on Earth together.
Thank you for taking time and reading about my friend, her dog and my beliefs...I hope those of you who own animals will appreciate this entry on my blog...and those who don't...maybe it will touch your heart and make you want to help a animal, maybe one in a shelter near your house. I can only hope that this story made someone feel the need to go save a life and start a lifetime of love and affection...God works in many ways, and loves all of his creations...even dogs.

Playful Yorkies Want to Play Catch

Sporting his Pawpaw's favorite team, Ryder decided to play with the Yorkies the last time he came to visit. Now they don't mind a playful game every now and then, but with small children, comes a time element that Yorkies don't like. They would rather go, go, go and little kids throw it, wait a while and throw again...it drive the Yorkies crazy.But Ryder was determined to give it a try...the ball is just right to fit his little hands. Now for the wind up...the wind up...come on Ryder the dogs are going crazy.

Very serious faces watch as Ryder gets just the right grip on the ball...now for the wind up...well guess he dosen't want to throw it right now.

Maybe the Yorkies will play with Nana and a piece of rawhid better. The Yorkies love to chase a ball, but when it comes down to it...they'll chase anything.

So when Ryder finally let the ball go...Shiloh raced to get it and ran off with it, thus ending the game.

So Jason Campbell has no competing threats from the Carolina's...maybe Ryder's more of a soccer player..maybe I will get a small soccer ball for them to play with...anyway the Yorkies still enjoyed seeing Ryder. So did we, and once his folks got done shopping they came and took him home. I will still try and get him to throw the ball with the Yorkies...got exercise for both of them. Thanksgiving Smiles from a Yorkie Photo

It's that time of year again...time to be thankful of the things that mean the most to your life. Time to gather with family, with friends and reminisce about the past year. And what a year it has been.Can the ignorant stranger qualify the crown? Who knows, but questions like this will be what you will be asked...silly questions, hard questions and very nosy questions. All good topics to get the arguments going for sure. Try this year to only ask easy questions...nice topics..not about finding a job...bills....house payments...save those for private discussions later. Let this time be of happy topics...we all like happy don't we?
So let me be the first to say what I am happy about this year. Of course my 2 grandkids...that's a gimme. I love those kids and they make me a very happy Pawpaw.
And I am happy and thankful for my family...that too is a gimme. What I am also thankful is that we found 5 beautiful homes for our Yorkie puppies. With the economy in the tank, and puppymills popping out cheap dogs we struggled to find homes that we felt suitable for our puppies. After going through a ton of emails and phone calls we found 5 families that met and exceeded our requirements. Why be thankful...if you were a breeder you would understand. When you give birth to puppies they become part of your family..your responsibility. You are in charge of finding and providing them safe, loving homes.
We love all of our dogs, and once they leave us, they are still part of our family. We've been lucky to be able to get emails and photos of our puppies. And we wanted to shave some to uplift your spirits and make you smile. We all can use a smile too.

When you open a email or get a photo and see your puppy older, bigger and loved, you smile. You think about the birth, the many hours spent taking care of them, loving on them, playing with them. Then you find homes for them and they leave...sometimes forever..never seeing them again.

But we are lucky to be able to see our puppies, or get photos, or emails letting us know how they are doing. More smiles and thankfulness, to be relieved that your puppies are safe and loved.

We won't name these dogs or tell ya where they live...we will tell you they are loved, they are safe and they are happy...just look at their faces and you can tell that. For that we are thankful.

Being a small breeder means you have great responsibilities for bringing happiness to families that are looking for a little furry love. To match your puppy with their needs. We had over 600 emails asking about our puppies and took about a 100 phone calls from our ads. Time, lots of time, spent asking questions, finding out about what kind of person is seeking your puppy.

So being thankful about these puppies is very appropriate for Thanksgiving..afterall they are part of our family, and always will be. Our kids know we love them, our families know we love them too. So "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" to all, and remember to smile, be thankful and spread a little love this holiday season.

Times have been hard this past year...help uplift someone's spirits and help them smile. Show them a picture of a Yorkie puppy...that always works for us...but we're Yorkie lovers....just look at that face....(: ...go ahead, your face won't break..smile...it's contagious...soon others will be smiling with you. It might even spread like the flu...everyone might be smiling around you..and for that you should be "thankful". Love yourself, love your family and love your pets. Our Grandson Turns "1" Today

A year ago today our lives changed forever....I became a Pawpaw, my wife a Nana. On this day a year ago our grandson was born.

He has changed us for the better we think....he's taught us to be more patient, more loving and to have more fun. He has also taught the Yorkies to be faster, more careful and more loving. They love when he comes to visit..and when he cries, they come a running...to see what is wrong and how they can help him.

He turns one year old today..time has really gone by fast...seems like his parents just brought him home...now he's walking, talking....wild.

Shiloh has been waiting for him to grow up a little more so they can play catch...I'm sure those two will have lots of fun ahead.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYDER...from the Yorkies, from Nana and of course from your Pawpaw. May all your days be as joyous as you have made ours. Just don't grow up too fast...let us enjoy each and every minute we have with you. I Love You "Little Man"...enjoy your day.

Shiloh asks for a new treat and gets even more...a little bit of heaven from K-9 Cuisine

"Well the humans had a good start to their day...they went to a bunch of yard sales...and didn't bring us back a thing..no toys, no beds...just a bunch of junk...oh, sorry...treasures"!!! "So I decided to give my daddy the poor, poor pitiful look...it always works...he's a easy mark...got him wrapped around my paw". "Hey...it's working, he's getting some of that new stuff...that's right...in the big brown box....yeap we've tried that one...wait...we haven't tried that one..yummo as Rachael Ray says".
"Guess it will be rude for me to talk with my mouth full so I will let daddy take over and tell ya about the....he's opening it up....about the food...and he's got a second box too...bye".
Shiloh seemed like he wanted me to try one of the new foods we got from the Yorkies favorite site, K-9 Cuisine - Premium Dog Food .
So I got a box of 'Itty Bitty Buddy Biscuits'...in the roasted chicken flavor...Carly helped with the box. And Shiloh helped count them out, and oversaw the rationing of them also.Buddy Biscuits are great for rewarding our Yorkies after they do a trick, or just for being themselves. Tinkerbell begs as Nana feeds her a reward. She hates to have her photo taken..but for a biscuit...anything goes. Her mom is right behind her in tricks...silly thing danced around in a circle...must be magic in those little biscuits.

Our dogs are so polite..they have never bitten a finger and will wait til they are given a treat..they don't act like wild beasts...well, wild Yorkies at least.

Since we were being generous to the Yorkies, we decided to try one of the new foods also. So we loaded up their bowl with "Addiction - Le Lamb", a dry food that smelled great.

This will help the many people who have emailed me following my blog a little more information about the new food we are trying out. We have had quite a few emails from all over, asking questions and it's really been a treat for us to see how many people are following our blog. Hopefully they will join it also, but all in all, as long as someone's reading this...we feel fulfilled. Sorry, got on a run didn't I...so here's the new food for the Yorkies...small little bits of wholesome good. Carly was first in line to read the package and make sure it was up to her needs...trust me Carly..we did our homework..it's all good.

The Yorkies are enjoying their new food and later we might try a new trick or two with the Buddy Bits too.

So after a good day for us humans...the dogs seemed to have had a better day. A new food and a new treat...hope they don't think we are buttering them up to go to the vet or something...they'll be acting weird the rest of the day.

Tropical storm Ida hits the Carolina's, time to try some K-9 Cuisine

So what do you do on a rainy day with 3 Yorkies, who hate going out in bad wheather. Tropical Storm Ida arrived to the Carolina's with no regard to our Yorkies. High winds, heavy rain and lots of flooding hit our area today causing major problems. The picture below is of a local soccer field...anyone up for a swim. Makes me wish for spring already...if this had been snow we would be sledding with the dogs right now...they hate rain...they love sledding...well, we do..they come for the ride.So we decided to try out some more of the dog food we got from the Yorkies favorite site, K-9 Cuisine - Premium Dog Food . First, we tried the "GO! - Natural - Duck Formula" dog food. It's formulated for optimum nutrition through all life stages.

The Yorkies seemed very interested in the rattling of the bag. They came a running to see what new item they were getting. It's easy to get them to come, it's hard to get them to like it. Yorkies are very picky animals, so this would be a good test. We knew they would eat it, but would they continue to eat it after that first bite.

They kept coming back for more, and more..we had to put the bag up or they would have eaten it all on the first day. We put a little in with their regular food and let them have fun.

Later that day we were still home bound by the rain so we gave the Yorkies a second treat of the day, "Fruitables - Pumpkin and Banana Mix - Dog Treats".

Carly was eager to give it a try and was about to open the bag herself. I stepped in and gave her a little help, after all she didn't have thumbs, so opening a bag would be a challenge. As I opened the bag the other Yorkies came running. It might be the aroma of cinnamon, vanilla and the different fruits...smelled like a warm banana muffin on a cold rainy day.Carly was first in line and still seemed hungry even after eating all that duck dog food earlier. They had a great day trying out their new food and we enjoyed spoiling the dogs. But we are Yorkie owners, that's our job in life, isn't it? The Yorkies are on baby watch.

The Yorkies were eager to see Maddy come for a visit...they love that little girl, not as much as Pawpaw and Nana do, but quite a bit. They come a running when she gets here...sniffing, trying to lick, complete fools. Shiloh supervised as we set up the swing and bouncer for Maddy. As the lone male dog of the house he is always on guard, protecting us from evil. And at about 5 pounds would put a hurt to someone's ankles if he was provoked. So Maddy is safe tonight for sure...we all are...Shiloh is on duty.

Tinkerbell takes a more low key to babysitting...she rests a little, plays a little, then rests some more. She thinks Maddy is a sister we believe and wants to be near her at all times...except when she needs a quick nap to recharge her Yorkie engine.

But after a good nap, she climbs the couch to watch over the little angel who is playing with Pawpaw on the floor...watching each movement, every little thing. She too is a vicious animal...can't you tell.

So the little angel who came to visit, is a very protected and loved baby. Maddy will always have someone or some Yorkie to play with, lay with or chase around the house. But she too has to rest every now and then and recharge her little motor too.

So the Yorkies and us had a great weekend...babysitting and playing...tough stuff for sure....we are very blessed. We have 3 Yorkies who love us to death, and love our 2 grandkids also. Not a normal thing for Yorkies to love little hands and babies. But for some reason we have never had any problems...both the animals and the babies have worked out who does what and when. Maybe we just have smart Yorkies, we think they are anyway...after all we did breed, and raise them. We have had the same bloodline for over 16 years, and love them dearly.

So Maddy will be going back home and the Yorkies will only have each other to entertain each other...back to normal around the Waterside Yorkies house.

K-9 Cuisine...Christmas for the Yorkies has come early

I had the FedEx tracking code that they had given me so I was able to track where the box was at all times...Shiloh, Carly and Tinkerbell were eager to get their new treats and food. As their owners we were excited too. And everyone knows that Yorkies are one of the most picky dog breeds around.

We had placed the order on Sunday night..gone to their site and found heaven for any dog owner. Multiple lines of dog food and treats that have a very detailed description of ingredients, feeding instructions and nutrition facts. The hardest part was trying to decide what we wanted to get for the Yorkies. After looking over their site...a true enjoyment for any pet owner..we decided on a wide variety of dog treats and dog foods. We decided that we would share our experience with you. We will give you our review and our dogs review on each item. We sent over the order Sunday night and today we received a large box of goodies for our Yorkies...nice turn around and free shipping on that equals less burden on us.

First up was a treat we got for Shiloh...our senior Yorkie, who at 6 years of age is starting to act as if his joints are stiff at times. Overly active dogs usually get a little arthritis in their legs and joints, so he was eager as we were to try it out.

Zukes HipAction came in beef formula and had glucosamine added to support and maintain joint function. It has 300 mg of glucosamine and 50 mg of chondroitin in each treat and was just the right size for Shiloh to try.

We will now let Shiloh tell you in his own words...."Your kidding..that giant treat is mine..all mine...give me, give me...come on...it smells so good". And with that he ate it like we had been starving him for days. He took it and ran under the table, a normal thing for Shiloh, to eat it without having to share it with the other dogs.

If the other items we got from K-9 Cuisine are as great as the HipAction treats, we will be the most loved Yorkie owners in America, or at least North Carolina.

Yorkies hate cold weather...can you tell

The cold winds of winter are coming in....just look how we found Tinkerbell one morning...she had managed to snuggle into our bed, under the blanket, and was toasty like a newborn baby. With cold weather comes the realization that our dogs become the fastest peeing and pooping yorkies known to man...they go out, they go and fly back to the door to get warm again.Shiloh is very content with just playing with his football..it is that time of year too. We still have Zoe visiting while her mommy, my mother-in-law, recovers from a illness. Zoe has had a great time, playing with her relatives and running from the grandkids...she's fast for a 13 year old Yorkie.

She will let them get only so close, before she runs like the wind...I think she kinda enjoys the chasing and running. She keeps coming back for more....playful at 13 still.

Our granddaughter in her trick-or-treat bib watches as the dogs roam around her. They love when the grandkids come to visit. It gives them someone new to sniff, lick and love.

Ryder, our grandson, watches the Yorkies as they tend to their business outside. Note his shirt, very fitting for fall don't you think.

Here he is helping Pawpaw by giving the Yorkies a rawhide to chew...a very giving little boy. Soon he will be running after the Yorkies...keeping them really on their paws. Lookout spring....here come Ryder, and he has his track shoes on.

Little Maddy just takes it all in...she's still too little to play with the Yorkies...but soon she too will be chasing, running and grapping the herd of Yorkies. I guess the Yorkies will really have their paws full this coming spring for sure.

But Yorkies are lovers, they are very mild dogs, full of love for all people, little and big. They learn quick how to avoid little hands and know just where to hide to be safe. And in Tinkerbells case, hide under our covers, in a nice warm bed...I know she's just hoping it won't be too cold of a winter...she really hates the cold...but she does have a wide variety of coats and sweaters to wear if it gets too cold..pictures to be posted as they are taken...thanks for the visit and please come back.

It's been awhile since I posted...have had a busy couple of weeks. First our granddaughter was born...isn't she beautiful. She seems to be very protected by the Yorkie Security Patrol. When she cries, they come running. When she's visiting, they come running. They love this little girl..guess they can't wait to play dress-up with her.

Fall flowers are blooming...there's a new feel in the air...my 'maters are slowly going away and our Yorkies are starting to love being outside again. They sure hate hot weather...cool weather is their favorite..they will sniff forever if you let them.And for some reason we seem to be under surveillance...and so scared of the Yorkies...isn't he...sad...very sad...but our dogs are lovers, not a mean bone in them.

We have been spend time with both our grandkids..and loving it. Ryder is walking already...at 10 months too. Smart little man...and cute as a button. He has really gotten to the grabby stage...watch out Yorks..here he comes.

Fall is a good time for Carly to start her cuddle time ways...she gets more affectionate as the temperatures go down. But we don't mind..well until she wraps around your neck...that get uncomfortable after awhile.

We got to keep Maddy over the past weekend...she spent Friday night with us. And as all infants do, she slept about 2-3 hours and woke up hungry and wet. She cried and Carly would fly up the stairs to check on her...our Yorkies love our grandkids...do they think of them as someone else to love them, or play with. Anyway...she was a angel and we enjoyed keeping her.

She's so cute...like her sleeper said..a real "Cutie". There is no better home then one with grandkids and Yorkies...but that's my opinion..and a good one.

We got some pictures of 2 of our puppies we had this past spring...Toby seems to be growing into a handsome Yorkie...he's still Rowdy to us..we really appreciated the pictures..we will always love our puppies.

Tanner seems to be doing ok in South Carolina...he moved the farthest away. Friends of our daughter got him and he is living large in SC. Tanner (Ozzy) does have a very intelligent look about him. But then, he is one of our puppies, so he has to be smart, right?

With winter months ahead Shiloh starts his blanket naptime routine. He loves to sleep on a throw..this spotted one is his favorite. We put it on the top of the couch so he can get a nap and a view...aren't we good parents. With his snowball fur..he blends into the throw..almost invisible isn't he.

We also still are taking care of Zoe...the senior Yorkie of the Waterside clan. She is the great-grandmother of Tinkerbell, our youngest Yorkie. She's been spend some time with us, while her mommie gets better from a illness she had. Zoe fits into the yorkie herd, just like she never left.

It's fun to watch her and Tinkerbell play together..generations apart..yet able to still connect.

September brings cooler weather..the yorkies love it and we do too. When I hear John Denver's "Country Roads" song it reminds me of fall fishing trips to Pawpaw, West Virginia..great times and cool valleys in the hills. The John Conlee song is just for me...a happening song at that time in my life..makes me want to slow dance at Partner's Two...my old hangout up in Virginia..great times in that old country bar..I learned to clog there..my legs are starting to hurt thinking about it...I need to go sit and rest...Pawpaw is getting old...where's my Shiloh and my rocker......

Yorkies make it to finals

We are very proud to say that 2 of our Waterside Yorkies have made it to week 7 of the Cutest Dog photo contest. Congrats to them both...Shiloh, the older, wiser Uncle and Rowdy, the littlest puppy of the last litter, and a handsome devil too.
So please take time and vote for Rowdy below: And please vote for his uncle also. Shiloh is a true Yorkie lapdog and a very good boy. When any one comes to our house he's the one they always want to take home...that's why I search people as they leave.If we win the contest I will shave my head...well my mustache at least...I will post pictures of the event. Thinning of the Herd

As Yorkie owners we love our dogs and only want the best for them. You feed them, love them and take care of them. We had 4 adult Yorkies when we had a litter of 5 more. We started to sell the puppies as each one got old enough and could survive without their mommy.The Fab Five were beautiful Yorkie puppies, yet we had the hardest time finding good homes for them. Oh, we had replies that would take a puppy for free. Trade one for a older Yorkie, or for a CKC Yorkie. We even got a offer of a talking bird for a puppy. Crazy, but we fished through the replies, the phone calls and the visits to find 5 great homes. Each puppy has a family that loves them and provides for them.

We have received some email updates on them and hope that the people will always keep us updated..we love all of our Yorkies.

We also decided to find a new home for one of our older Yorkies. She's gone up the road apiece to a loving family and other Yorkies to play with.

We are down to 3 Yorkies, alot more easier to handle and feed. We will stay at 3 for awhile, to be able to travel easier, live less crowded and cut the costs alittle too.

Have you ever had to relocate a animal...it's not easy...and it wears you down. I will post a picture of the 3 Stooges...our Yorkie herd.

Yorkies get new person to play with.

The Yorkies of Waterside have a new person to play with...her name is Madelyn Audrey and she was born on August 24th. She is doing well, except for the need to get her hair done...she's beautiful. So Ryder will have a helping hand in corralling the herd of Yorkies. He has been doing a excellent job, but will appreciate the help that will be coming soon from his cousin.

Meanwhile, Shiloh gathers his things and starts to worry 'bout another set of small hands. He has learned to bob-and-weave like a NFL runningback. But they all have learned to get along..just like they should.

Once the dust settles I will be back at blogging more often...hard to do with new puppies, new babies and such.
Oh, by the way, we sold our last puppy....all 5 puppies have found great homes. We also found a home for one of our adult Yorkies, Patty. She's living a little ways up the road from us with her new family. She's already adjusted to her new home and is settled in.

We had asked the Lord's help in finding homes for our Yorkies, and with time, he has provided us with great one's for each of them.

How much is that Yorkie in the dog ad?

Well, time has gone by..and Rowdy is still with us. We have had over 285 emails for him, but not one we found to be the one for his forever home. Some close contenders, but not that perfect fit.
Oh, we have had some great offers....trade for a bird, trade for a older Yorkie, give him to them...a bunch of them, do we do payments, layaways til Christmas, do we have any mixed-yorkie puppies (hello...did the ad say mixed?), $100-200 offers (seriously - for a full blooded Yorkie, come on people) and a couple of email scams....makes you really scratch your head and wonder. So far, we have been lucky and have found 4 great homes...we only need one more. I'm sure with all the puppymill Yorkies, rescue Yorkies and massproduction kennels out there it will take a little more effort than normal, whatever normal is. Look at Rowdy's face and tell me why we can't find someone who will appreciate him, love him and protect him. Oh I do believe we will find the right fit for Rowdy, it will just take more time I guess.

That gives us more time to play with him and love him... He's having fun playing with the other Yorkies. And we can enjoy watching him grow up...changing into the handsome Yorkie he will be.

So Rowdy will stay with his mommy...play with his half-sister and wait for his forever family to come forward and find him.

5, 4, 3, 2 and then 1 Yorkie Puppy Left....He Might Just Have To Stay

Well, the weekend's coming to an end...we sold another puppy....now we are down to one. Little Rowdy, the smallest of the group, and a precious pup.He loves to give Tinkerbell a run for her money...chases her into her cat cave. But she loves it, slowly she'll come back out and be looking to see if Rowdy is going to chase her again. He isn't very big...only 1.75 lbs, a featherweight in Yorkieland. He will be 9 weeks old tomorrow, yet we hold on to him until he makes weight. Or will we keep him....hmmmmmm. He is about the size of Tinkerbell was at the same timespan. He won't be a Teapot Yorkie for sure.

So 4 of the 5 puppies have been sold, we still have one puppy on the shorttimers list. His mommy is coming Thursday to pick him up. So for a few more days we get to love him and play with him, and so does Rowdy. That's the two of them napping today, 2 peas in a pod.

We really enjoyed talking Yorkie to people. I had almost 200 responces to my ads on the computer. And Nana got a bunch of calls on her phone. We screened and asked questions, until we found the best homes for each of the puppies. Something we really take serious.

So the weekend's over, puppies have found homes, Ryder came to visit Saturday night, it was a great weekend.

Now do we sell Rowdy or keep him.....we will keep him for a little while at least. Until he makes our weight limits for releasing a puppy to their new homes. That gives us more time to play with him and screen the people who want him. I will let you know what's going on as soon as we realize it ourselves. Yorkie Puppies Are Leaving Left and Right

Well, sadness has filled the air at Waterside Yorkies. The puppies are being bought and leaving us on a daily basis. We hate to see them go, but are happy that they are going to great homes that will love them and protect them. We are very selective in who gets our furbabies. So now we are down to 2 puppies...little Rowdy and teddybear Ozzy. We will soon sell them too, but will always have our pictures and memories of the Fab Five. Carly has done a excellent job as mommy dog. She did the first time with Tinkerbell's litter, 2.5 yrs ago.So we will continue to play with Ozzy and Rowdy until they get sold. We will enjoy the smell of puppy breathe, the crying of little furballs and the yelping of fighting puppies.

We still will have the older Yorkies to play with...they act like puppies at times. Look at Tinkerbell below in her cat cave...silly thing. Well, guess I better go play with the puppies we still have. No matter how bad the world seems, it gets better when you play with a puppy. Just my luck...they are asleep. Look at Rowdy sleeping on his dogtoy...precious ain't it.

New Camera...Yorkie Pictures of Fun

Well we are still trying to figure out our new camera...bells, whistles and rings....more buttons than my dress shirt has. But we are slowly getting the hang of it. Here are some of Nana's pieces of art....first up....Tinkerbell in her puppy (cat) cave...she loves that thing...she can run away from the other dogs and hide in it. She even sleeps in it sometimes.

What can I say about Shiloh..he is what everbody wants in a Yorkie dog...loyalty and devotion in a lap dog....he looks sad..but trust me..he's spoiled rotten.Two of the 5 puppies playing as usuall. Ozzy and Haley having a chat...wondering when the "new" families are showing up to take them to their new homes...we sold Flash over the weekend, he has a great family and will be loved everyday.

Merlin is alert and ready to spring into action...he has more energy than the Energizer rabbit. But he'll put his brakes on and be a lap dog in a second. He will be a great doggie for someone.

Yorkie Pictures Lost Again...Solution...A New Camera

Well we haven't had any pictures to post...our crappy camera went crazy at the beach..lost all the photos...with a new sd card it still ate the pictures. I was able to recover about 75% of them, and will continue to try to get more. But enough was enough, we bought a new Samsung SL620. It's got bells, whistles and a lot more. With 5x zoom we watch the puppies from across the state...well almost. It is a relief not to worry that your pictures are going to disappear. We will post some new pictures as soon as we learn how to operate all the gadgets. We hate to think of losing the puppy pictures...sad enough that we have started selling them and they will be gone soon....so far we have had a great turnout for interests in our pups. Now comes the hard part, getting people to commit. So far we sold one, Rowdy and have another possibly going soon. We will miss the little fur balls, but we know we can't keep 9 dogs...well...no we can't keep 9 dogs. So we will find great, safe, loving homes for them and hopefully with the computer watch them grow up. Who knows they might even come visit us later in their lives.

We will be taking a lot of pictures this weekend for sure, Nana will be trying out her camera like a cub reporter for the newspaper. We will post a new blog as soon as we can..with people coming by all the time it's tough to find time. Yorkie Fab Five Turns 6 Weeks Old

The Fab Five Yorkie puppies turned 6 weeks old on Monday. Those little bundles of fur below have started to become the Yorkie Royalty they think they are. This is Rowdy, our littliest Yorkie, who is able to keep up with the rest of the puppies and more. He fears no one and loves everyone. Ozzy is the lap dog that everyone wants...I have worked with him and turned him into Shiloh's twin, his uncle. He loves to be petted and will lay in your lap forever. He'll be someones furbaby for sure. Now this is Merlin, the true wizard, who wags his tail at a hundred miles a hour. He will be a happy dog for sure. Loves to play and play, seems not to tire at any rate. He is second smallest, but is a giant with small paws.

Our lone lady is Haley, who will melt your heart with her furry little face. She loves to lay in your lap and stands up to her brothers. She will be a protector of the house, while loving everyone in it at the same time.

Finally, is the fun heart Flash, the largest of the 5, but that means he weighs more than 1 and a half pounds, a very small weight. He'll be ideal in a family with other dogs or older children. Someone to play with, and not tire out, he loves to play.

So today we took them to the vet for their 6 week checkup....shots, drops and scales. They did very well, considering that they are only 6 weeks old and weigh so little. We gave them benadryl so they should take a nap and rest. The vet said they looked great, and checked them all out from top to bottom.

So they survived the terrrible vet visit, a part of their young life that can cause trauma and turmoil. They aren't due back til week 10 to the vet, hopefully with their new families.

We will have to let them go soon, a time both Nana and I don't look forward to. But we also realize that they will hopefully come visit us, and with the net, we'll get to see them grow up.

They are a joy to be with right now in a world that needs some happiness in it.

What a Yorkie can do for you

Well, as Jon and Kate seperate, the world for the puppies is just beginning. They'll have ups and downs and life may not always be bright, but to a Yorkie life is a new beginning each day. They can make the worst day in the world seem better by just a little lick and a loving look. Soon they will not need their momma anymore and be looking for their owners. The people who will love and protect them for the rest of their lives. A job some take lightly, but really requires a special person.Anyone can buy a dog, it takes a special person to buy a Yorkie. Someone who doesn't mind the love and affection that they will recieve daily. The sad faces, the happy faces that each day brings. Oh, it's not always so bad..some days your Yorkie will sit with you, in your lap and only require a occasional petting or two.

Yorkies are the loyal dogs they think they are. Notice the puppy taking a break in the bigger Yorkies bed. They know no size, they think they are bigger than they are.

Happy Father's Day -- 2009

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there...here's my dad with his favorite lap buddy..Shiloh. Pop, my dad, would rub that dog into a knot. Pop and Shiloh would sit together from the moment Pop came into the house, until he left. I miss that, I miss my Pop...but I have memories that fill my heart with joy.This year we have the blessings of 5 puppies into our life...below is their daddy, Dozer. He is a little fella, but did his job quite well, the result is our 5 puppies.

So the "Fab Five" send a shoutout to their dad..Happy Father's Day Dozer.

The "Fab Five" are doing well, they will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. This is a very special Father's Day, as Pawpaw I am a grandfather for the first time, a father to 3 children and a grandparent to 5 puppies...a special Father's Day indeed. Carly loves to sit and watch her babies...notice the little one in the cave...they love that silly thing...we originally got it for Tinkerbell..but now it's being used by the puppies as well. Nothing could be finer than to sleep in a bunch in Carolina in the morning...

Hello world....I'm new at this blogging stuff...but I sure am cute...do you see me...I don't see you...this is my brother..we hang out together.

Carly spends most of her day herding the puppies into some organized area...she has done very well in keeping the puppies from going too far from her. Below she is herding them into a dog bed for their nap..good luck Carly.

But she makes it and they go down...they get some rest and then back up to go strong again. They are 4 and a half weeks old now, eating well and yapping ...still needing their momma to watch over them...a job Carly does so well. Thanks for stopping by and please come back.

Yorkies Gone Amuck, No Not Really

The puppies are 4 weeks old today...Happy Birthday "Fab Five". We didn't give them a cake, but they did get some Mighty Dog.
They also got to go to the vet and get their deworming medicine...what a gift. They took it in stride and all went well.

When they got back to the house they played alittle and ran around alot. They try and play with the toys we gave them, but they still don't have it quite down yet.
The puppies do like to go exploring...especially in what we call Tinkerbells cave. It's really a cat cave, but don't tell the dogs ok.

Five puppies in different directions equals a fun time. It is so much fun watching them discover the new world before them.

But even the new world isn't as much fun as this cave...they climbed in and out of it, over and over. Sometimes one at a time, sometimes a bunch of them would go in it.

So the puppies survived their visit to the vet and are doing very well. All of them are smaller than Tinkerbell was at the same time in development, not by much but smaller. Except Rowdy...the wild man...he loves to run around and strut his stuff..he's still under a pound. He'll be a little fella..but Shiloh was little and we all know how lovable he is. Carly is doing great also and people are showing interest in buying a puppy. Tough time to sell puppies, but these aren't normal puppies are they? We will find great homes for them, it will take time, but for the "Fab Five" we only want the best. Yorkie Pups Discover Mighty Dog...Their First Solid Food

Well it was time to introduce the puppies to solid food...and what a funfest it was. One can of Mighty Dog and 5 puppies equals total mayhem. But boy did they fun. It took us a little while to clean them up after the pigs hit the troff. Carly tried to teach them to eat but they were too excited to listen.

The "Fab Five" really enjoyed themselves to their first taste of dog food....hmmmmm meaty. They quickly learned how to eat this new substance...solid food.The Yorkie herd watched from the foyer....they really wanted to jump the gate, but behaved themselves. Notice Tinkerbell in the middle, standing up to get the best view.

Haley kept up with her brothers...tough being the only girl...the boys try and push her around..but she can hold her own. She jumping into the plate and guarded it like it was gold. She will be a princess later...now she's just one of the boys. The plate feeding was taught to us by a champion breeder we know...always works...messy...but it gets them eating solid food and loving it. So solid food has been introduced to the puppies and they loved it. Questions? Just email them to us and we will answer them asap...with 9 dogs we can only respond so quickly.

Yorkie Puppies For Sale In North Carolina...Soon Going To A New Home Near You...Maybe Yours?

Well, I guess it's time to introduce the "Fab Five"...they recently celebrated their 2 week birthday on Monday. They are all doing great and Carly is still taking good care of them. She is melting back down to her 4-5 pound weight..chasing puppies is a tough job. They will soon be developing into their own individual personalities...fun stuff to watch and record.
We will enjoy them while we have them...until we find great people and great homes for each of our "fur babies". Taking care of a Yorkshire Terrier isn't easy..they are demanding of time and effort...but in the end you have a beautiful dog that loves you to death.First of the "Fab Five" is our little girl, and only girl...Haley. She weighs in at 10 ounces and will be a beautiful Yorkie like her mommy. She came out first, making her brothers follow in her footsteps...she will be a leader for sure.
Well, I guess it's time to introduce the "Fab Five" boys...they are strong in numbers, small in size. Starting off is Rowdy, he is the littlest of the 5 but seems to be keeping up with the rest of the gang. Even though he is only 8 ounces he is steadily gaining weight as quick as the others..he just started at a small scale. He is quick, won't stay still long enough to take a clear picture.

Then there's Ozzy...who is the first to open their eyes...he was born with a white star on his chest..it has gone away but he still is a star to us. He weights in at 11 ounces, the biggest of the 5. He still is small compared to Tinkerbells weight at the same time, and she's only 3.5 pounds now at almost 2 years of age.

Merlin is next at 10.5 ounces, the middle pup, who will be a magical Yorkie for sure. He has powers that will melt your heart. He too is a mover, wouldn't pose for the camera at all.

The last boy is Flash, who at 10 ounces was named for his flash of white on his chest. His eyes will be opening soon...he's almost peeping now.
So that's the "Fab Five", soon they will be exploring the new world awaiting them. Soon we will be chasing 5 puppies going in 5 directions. But we won't mind, we love our Yorkies and will take great care of them until we find homes for each one. A process we take very serious, for Carly's babies are ours too. We want only the best for them, and will take whatever time it takes to find the most loving and safest homes.

We have begun to advertise them, and have a few people interested..but so far, no deposits holding their puppy. We won't let them go until late July, we believe they need to be with their mommy and family until then. More time for us to enjoy them too.

Shiloh's Deep Thoughts on Puppyhood

Hello everyone my name is Shiloh and I am the "grand uncle" to the "Fab Five"...pictured here feeding again..they eat alot...I'm just glad they aren't into my food bowl...then we would have to talk...just eat at mommies snack bar...leave the big dog food alone..got it.As "uncle" to the pups I have to really be on my toes...I have to step up the security around the house..if it makes a noise I have to bark over and over..until the people respond to my barks...to wake them up for any reason...anytime.

And on top of everything on my dog plate..the grandchild had to come and visit..I love him but he is in the grab stage..my aching butt...he loves to pull my fur...but he is soooo cute...we will play catch someday...I look forward to that...but for now I will hide my ball from him..he likes to grab it but won't give it back.

So the puppies are doing fine...growing fatter..yapping alittle..mostly they sleep and eat.

They will be 2 weeks old tomorrow, boy they grow up so fast...soon I will have to show the boys how to pee, to sniff the right things, and all the other things a boy dog needs to know.

But until then sleep little ones...sleep...soon a whole new world will be at your beck and call.

They are cute...little bundles of love...just remember...leave "Uncle Shiloh's" stuff alone and we will all get along great...

Did I look so cute at this stage of life...oh I know I did..I just want my owners to tell me again...I do love attention...I think I look like Ozzie, no maybe Merlin, no maybe....well I looked like one of them I know.

The Fab Five - A Week Old

Well the puppies turned a week old last night...old ain't they? Carly has been the best momma you could ask for. She has been able to feed and care for her "Fab Five" pups like she had experience in such a large litter. Five little pups, hungry all the time, wandering around the box, crying when she steps out for a moment...non-stop...but she hops back into the box and feeds them, rounds them up and starts all over again. The pups seem to be developing right along. They are gaining weight and growing right along.

What could be more beautiful than a Yorkie pup sleeping...sleep little one...rest up for all the playing you have ahead of you. And boy do Yorkies love to play...with each other or by themselves...alot of energy in a little body.

We just wanted to you to know how the "Fab Five" was doing..and to let you see our babies.

Yorkie Pups Survive First Vet Visit

Well the puppies have had a long week so far. First, being born on Monday night, about 4 days early. Followed by their first visit to the vet...to have their tails shortened and dewclaws removed. Not great fun at all, but part of the standard for Yorkshire Terriers.Before they had to leave for the vet they were just relaxing with their mom...grabbing a little food and maybe a nap. Carefully Nana packs the pups into a carrier for their trip to the vet. We had put Carly into another room so she wouldn't be all spooked and crying about her pups.

We arrived at the vet and talked to the doctor about what we wanted done and how the pups were doing. We will have to take them back in a few weeks for shots. The vet did the procedure and we took the puppies back home to mommy. They cried a little but really seemed to take it all in stride.

So with newly stubby tails they settled down and took a nap after rejoining with their mom. Carly checked each pup out and fed them a little. You can see where their tails have been shortened to a nub.

The "Fabulous Five" then rested for the night and today spent most of it resting also. The only sounds were when Carly left the whelping box to eat or drink...but she quickly returned when they started to cry.

So sleep little ones and soon you will open your eyes to a new world. One that will be a lot more interesting now that you all are in it. Nana weighed the pups tonight and they have gained about two ounces each...still smaller than Tinkerbell was at the same time. Nana takes good notes with all our litters so we can analyze each litter and compare notes.

So the "Fab Five" have had a long week of life so far...next week will be easier for them..all they have to do is eat, rest and cry...all three comes easy for puppies.

Yorkie Puppies - The Fabulous Five

Well day 2 has come and the whelping box is empty no more. Now the sounds of little yelpers..crying when momma moves around, or goes for a break. Carly and the "Fabulous Five" are doing well. The puppies are eating as much as Carly can stand. And Carly is eating and seems to be recovering very well. She was a great momma dog to her first litter and we are sure she will do the same this time too. She spends most of the day in the box with her puppies. And when we take her out for a bathroom break she is eager to come back in and check on her pups.

Nothing in the world is more beautiful than a momma dog and her litter. And she will lay there until she needs to eat, drink or go...and then right back to the box she runs.

Well guess I'll go check on the puppies again, we find ourselves doing that alot. We can hardly wait until we can play with them..all five at once...plus our other 4 equals a Yorkie Fun Fest.

Puppies, Puppies, Puppies..Let The Fun Begin

Well we thought Carly would deliver early..she did the last time. So we were hoping for some kind of early warning...she played it as cool as a cucumber. But with no signs of labor, no panting, we still got everything ready for delivery time.We got her whelping box ready, simple quarters for mom and her puppies. All cleaned and sterilized..now we wait.

The other dogs stood waiting patiently...well, all but Shiloh. As you can see below he gets involved in any delivery like he's the father...but he's the male of our herd of Yorkies.He stood there for the whole time of delivery...or laid down, with his nose through the gate..watching. He is a very loving dog, he takes his family seriously. Tough job, but someone has to do it.

So around 7:56 pm Carly started to pant, to dig her way to China. It's "Puppytime"...battlestations everyone.

At 8:45 pm the first puppy came into the world, a girl, weighing 4 ounces. We named her "Haley" for now. She is pictured above watching her brother, "Merlin", come into the world at 9:02 pm. Weighing in at 4 ounces also, he looks similar to his sister.

He was followed by "Flash", weighing in at 3.5 ounces, delivered at 9:19 pm. He will be a scrapper, being the littlest, he will learn to fight for a nipple fast. At 10:47 pm we delivered "Ozzy" into this world. Weighing in at about 4 ounces, he too is a handsome puppy. He has a white star on his chest...his tattoo.

And last came "Rowdy", in at 4 ounces also, he would finish the night in style at 11:18 pm. What a night...1 girl, 4 boys...Carly you outdid yourself...now rest little momma.Nana will help your pups get started with feeding, and I will watch over you like Shiloh. We will help you keep them warm and healthy, while making sure you eat right and have everything you need too.

So the puppies came into this world a kicking and a screaming...the next generation of our dogs. We will take care of them until they are ready for adoption. We temporarily name them so we will be able to call them individually. Plus for us to keep records on each pup...a journal for each puppy.

So by midnight we were done, the puppies were feeding, mommy was resting, all was well.

I still stayed up with Carly, watching over her and the puppies...what's sleep anyway. And I wanted to comfort Carly, let her know that she did a great job, and that I was there for her.
She slept a little, she deserved what she could get.

But as soon as one of the puppies cried, we both sprang into action. She's lucky that we don't own a bigger pen...or I would have been sleeping in there too.
But around 3 am I decided she was ok, the puppies were ok and I needed to get some rest. I put the baby monitor near the pen and tried to sleep a little..but with each noise I awoke..waiting to see if everything was alright. And poor Nana had to go to work today...she will get a nap when she comes home...I'll see to that. She is a loving wife, and a kind, loving and knowledgeable Yorkie owner. It is beautiful to watch her anticipate the dogs moves and react to them before the dog even has a chance. She did a excellent job with Carly's puppies, and I was proud to assist her. I Love You Elsie.

So the puppies are resting, I just took Carly out for a bathroom break, and a little sunshine. But she was eager to get back to her pups. They need her to comfort them, feed them and teach them the ways of the world.

I will post more on the puppies as time allows. Our herd has grown from 4 to 9 in hours. We will find homes for them, teach the new owners the responsibility of owning a Yorkie. And be able to tell them the many benefits of owning the most beautiful dog in the world. It only takes a few minutes with one to realize the love you will get back when you have a Yorkie in your house, and in your heart...and with 9...Lord help us.

Puppy Countdown...Let The Fun Begin

Well it's Saturday and the dogs are all starting to gather. Seems like they know when Carly's due too. She delivered early last time, so we are on "Official Puppy Watch". We will assemble the crate today, and get the whelping box ready too. Puppies are fun, but alot of work is involved when you breed your dogs.
Here's Shiloh and Tucker guarding Carly. She's been wandering around the house, restless as can be. She's starting to be in mommy mode.
The Queen of our herd, Granddog Patty, sits by Nana's legs..just keeping tabs on what's going on. She was a great helper to Carly when the last litter was born. Patty would bark when ever a puppy cried...and helped clean them too. She's been sleeping in the kitchen, where all the action will take place, she isn't going to miss a thing.

And Uncle Shiloh still squeezed in a game of fetch..he loves to chase a ball, a toy, anything that can be thrown. He gets so much attention, that he never gets jealous...he only gets excited if his ball or toy is missing....goes around the house until it's found.

And our daughter's dog, Tucker, is helping himself to our grandson's boppy pillow. He can't be bothered by all this fuss. He has to keep a eye on our grandson while his mommy and daddy are away for a vacation. Hey Tucker, make yourself right at home son...you are Carly's brother..you could act a little excited.

So we made it to the weekend before the puppies come...we will try and keep everyone updated..Carly seems in the 3-4 puppy size, but I still feel like 5 puppies will be coming..whatever is safe for her. Wish us luck and we will write in the blog as soon as we get started...guess we will be sleeping in our track shoes, ready to run at a moments notice.

Puppy Pictures...No Wait.

Here's my puppies...no wait...that's not a puppy...hey....you loaded the wrong pictures again, and they are upside down, come on man...wake up. This is serious stuff...I'm due next week...we don't have time to mess around...get it together.

This is "Baby Maty", not my puppies...wait...I haven't even delivered the puppies yet...there are no pictures yet...stop playing with my little mind ok?

These are the parents of those pictures...wrong blog Pawpaw...this is Waterside Yorkies...not Pawpaw's Wisdom...come on..where's you head..I know you got babies and puppies coming..but really, keep it real dog...I love that saying.Matt and Jordan aren't due til August...I'm due next week sometime...ouch..another kick to the ribs...ungrateful pups..kicking their mommy like that. And one of them has big paws too. He gets the small feeder, it will be payback time.

So I sit by the window and look for that stork...hope he gets here soon...I hate to wait, whether it's for dinner or to go outside, I have no patience. But I want my pups to be healthy, so I will wait as long as it takes. Boy do I look fat or what...I think I gained 4 pounds...all in my belly.

Aaah...that feels better..these guys are heavy. Think I'll just lay here on this rug and take a nap...a little rest will help me...ouch..another kick.

My mommy is watching me like a hawk...this is the look I get from her when I look at her..puzzled...eager...she loves puppies...she helped me when I had Tinkerbell during my last litter. Granddog Patty...Queen of the Yorkie herd and my mommy. She comes a running when those pups start to cry, she has a large heart and her motherly instincts kicks in, I hope it isn't that she thinks I can't be a good mom, I know what I'm doing.

And here's my brother, Tucker, he's staying with us while his people parents go on a trip...nice look Tucker...very mature..you hate to share the limelight don't ya. I guess since his niece drives him crazy, he really doesn't want more around. He's use to just him being the sole dog of the house..he's spoiled, but I love my brother.

So no big news yet...I will keep you all up to date as it goes along. Keep checking back and I will let you know, and if I can't I will get Pawpaw to write something. Wish me luck...sure is fun typing on Pawpaw's computer..maybe I'll write a book someday..anyway...bye for now...ouch...another kick.

Oprah's having chicken problems...who cares..I'm having puppies in 2 weeks...get your piorities in order...ok?

"So Oprah's was giving away chicken..oooh chicken that sounds good..and grilled chicken..better...she has problems ok..I get it...humans love things that are free...big deal...But I'm with puppies...due in 2 weeks ...oh I feel so fat....and those marshmellow puppies are kicking like their playing soccer inside me...I can't find that spot to lay that I keep looking for...maybe over there..no....maybe here on this leopard bed...aah...that's nice....did you get any of that chicken...no...rats"." Hey...rub my belly Pawpaw...these puppies are kickin' a storm up. You know I think there's 3, no 4 in there....glad I go to vet today...good to have a check up....time to nap... ".

"Four puppies would ok..I can only feed so many you know...look at my belly...I only have so many feeders. Did you get my whelping box ready yet...you know I had my pups early last time...you better get everything ready, you never know when it could start".

" And where's my daughter...Tinkerbell...she's suppose to be helping me...ungrateful puppy...I was in labor for minutes with her...hard minutes too...and how does she show her love...hiding in the bedroom, under the covers...ooooh...that sounds like a good spot...now how do I get up on the bed... ".

"What...my mom wants what...oh she's just having puppy pains...she'll be alright...now leave me alone...soon puppies will be running all over this place...and as their big sister I'll be in charge of them..mom already said so".

"Go on..I need my rest...you know I'm still a growing dog myself...I'm not even 2 yet..still a pup..so I need my rest...maybe we'll play later ok...now leave the room, quietly please...".
So while Carly rests and Tinkerbell sleeps, we wait...Carly's getting bigger by the day...after she eats she's as firm as a watermelon. We are excited to see the puppies...little Yorkies are the cutest things you have ever seen. And if they turn out like Carly's first litter..they'll come early and quick

We will get the crate over the weekend, and the whelping box...all the medical things we will need to deliver Carly's pups...now we wait....I hate to wait, don't you...tick..tick..tick..time slowly goes by. Carly's Boyfriend Dozer...A Yorkie Love Story

Well we made it to the beach and back...4 yorkies in a car for 4-5 hours is fun city...especially when one is pregnant...but we bring pillows and towels and they have it easy...I have to drive, they get to watch out the window, sleep, roll over, sleep, look again...sleep...not hard at all.
And Carly is doing fine...she's due in about 3-4 weeks...last time she delivered early...so we'll be on watch for that again....here's some pictures we have of her boyfriend..he is a very cute and little yorkie named Dozer. His puppy pictures are adorable...but all yorkie puppies are, aren't they? Since the two of them are small dogs, their pups probably will be too. And with Carly's first litter she had 3 small dogs....3 girls...and our little Tinkerbell is on 2-1/2 pounds at almost 2 years of age...she's a cutie. But we knew that when we saw her..that's why we kept her.
If Dozer's puppy picture above is an example of their puppies, we won't have any problems finding good homes...we already have people asking and wanting to be added to the list of puppy parents...we think there might be 4 at least...seems like for everyone asking about a puppy, Carly keeps getting bigger. Dozer and Carly have champions on both sides, so the pups should have some really beautiful characteristics from both sides. Yorkies seem to sell themselves anyway..people who love them already know why they want a Yorkie. The hard part is finding the "one". They all are cute, and at birth are all adorable. We will keep everyone informed on Carly's health and appreciate the emails we have gotten...she loves to have us read them to her, she smiles and lays back down..about 3 weeks Carly, hold on girl.

Oh...I feel so fat....how many puppies are in there? And I have how many more weeks...there goes my bikini for summer...oh well..it will be worth it. My lost is the worlds gain, I do breed beautiful baby yorkies. Look at Tinkerbell, they had to keep her when I had puppies two years ago..she's little and precious.

But my belly is getting so big...I am starting to look like I ate a bag of marshmellows...a large bag. And now I am experiencing morning sickness, I feel sluggish, and my daughter wants to play tug-a-war all the time...I do love that game. But Pawpaw watches over me so close, he won't let the other yorkies shake me, or sit on me, or even play too hard...he does love me I feel. He'll be my birthing coach when I go into labor. But he did a great job with Nana, the last time, so I am not worried. So I am just laying and waiting, for time to pass...it moves so slow. We do go outside to play in the beautiful sunshine..I do love that. My mom is always close by me now...I think she is eager for the puppies too..she was a good granddog the last time. And of course Uncle Shiloh is the "Alpha Male" of the herd..he always on guard, protecting us. Even before I was pregnant, he would keep watch on us girls. He thinks he is big...but he is only 4 and a half pounds of lapdog..but don't tell him I said so, he's a Rottweiler in his eyes.

So now I wait...my human mommy feeds me special food just for me and my babies...I do like that too....so it really isn't that bad. I do like to be spoiled...alot. And I know that my owners will find great homes for my puppies...that's a relief off my mind. I believe they have a waiting list already...I do breed beautiful yorkies...and with our bloodlines...Waterside Yorkies Rule.

Well, I'll go now and rest a little more..naps are important..maybe I'll try and find me a nice spot by the patio doors...the sunshine on my belly makes me happy...wasn't that a John Denver song...no wait...that was sunshine on my shoulder..never mind...oh well, nap time is calling...

Pregnant Yorkie...The Story Continues

Oh Yorkie Angels watch over little Carly over the next 4 weeks..she's pregnant and slowly losing her mind. The hardest part of breeding dogs is waiting. I believe Tinkerbell, below, has the right idea. Just get a little sun in the morning and take over her shift of watching her mom later. I think Tinkerbell will really enjoy her new half brothers and sisters.

Waiting is a labor intensive undertaking, and even Shiloh, Carly's uncle, rests atop the couch, his favorite spot. The 63 days of waiting wears out little Yorkies, but he has the evening shift tonight. So a nice nap will take the edge off.

And where is Carly? She's in the pen we keep set up in the kitchen with her mommy, Patty. Grandmom Patty is eagerly waiting for her next granddogs. She helped the last time we bred Carly. When the pups would yelp Patty would come a running.

With a litter of 1-5, normally only 3-4, who knows what we have ahead of us. But this is part of the fun part. Getting ready for the big day. Carly's belly is getting firm, she's starting to nest, and Elsie is feeding her extra calories and nutrients.

When those little sacks of puppies starts coming we will be prepared. And if we have a problem, our vet is only 3 minutes away. All bases are covered...now we wait.

A funny thing just happened, I was watching some Yorkie's that were pregnant and had some pups on YouTube when the yelping puppies got everyone going. I was covered up with Yorkies in seconds. Now I know how to call the dogs all together...run that video again....funny!

Four weeks, time will pass quickly...and I know we are ready..but I am eager to see those little puppies..and watch Carly be the great mom she was with her first litter. And if the puppies turn out like Tinkerbell, we will be really happy. Her daddy moved away so we had to find a new stud. The sire we found was a beautiful Yorkie that we went and met. Carly was in heat so she really wasn't as picky as we were. When you breed dogs you have to be responsible not only to your dog, but to the breed and to the puppies. It shouldn't be taken lightly and it isn't a easy task.

You have to compare the traits of both dogs, which are policed by standards of the AKC. Yorkies can pass on good and bad traits...you just can't go find a mate and have at it. You have to carefully choose who to breed to and where the puppies will go. We won't sell a puppy until you go through a couple of meetings with us. The new owners will be adopting one of "our" puppies too. We won't sell you a puppy if you don't pass our tests. Our bloodlines are full of champions, so it won't be hard to find homes...we already have 2, maybe 3, sold already...we will have more people contacting us as time goes on and word of mouth goes out.

So we wait...maybe I'll go check on Carly...never mind...Patty's still on duty...the four dogs have bonded together and have prepared themselves for the puppies...and look out when they hear a noise...4 yappers...keeping their house safe...and us too.

Yorkie Mom-to-be...Carly's Story.

They say sping is a time for new beginings...it's a time to start Carly's nesting mode. She has begun to act crazier then she normally is..well, not nutty crazy...just nuttier. She is really a sweet dog, who was a excellent mother to her first litter...just ask Tinkerbell.
Carly's just restless...can't seem to find that perfect spot to rest. And she has begun her lovey, dovey stage..where she needs alot of hugs, kisses and attention.
Back and forth she goes...searching for a place to call her own. Soon she will be in nesting mode...small steps in a large process of having puppies. Carly is always taking time to rest, where is the question. She might be in a bedroom, in the kitchen, or up on a chair..just waiting for time to tick by.

But, if you want to snap a quick picture, you'll have to be fast. She doesn't seem to want her photo taken at this time in her life...is she starting to feel "fat and ugly"...couldn't be, she's cute no matter how big she gets. The puppies need for a area to develope on a small dog can only be so much. So we keep a close eye out for her. Making sure she isn't bothered by other dogs, eating right, sleeping calmly and overall, just being a pregnant dog. She is due in late May, so we have awhile for more days of restlessness, morning sickness, nesting...etc. We will keep you all up to date on Carly's Story. It's time for a hug, now where could she be???

Yorkies at 3rd Annual Bark at the Beach

Holden Beach held it's 3rd annual "Bark At The Beach" dog walk and show to raise money for Easter Seals on Saturday, April 11th. They raise over $5,000 and had around 60 dogs show up.

First event was the 1-mile dog walk, that had dogs of all sizes and breeds entered. Pictured below are some of the Yorks that walked.

Along the way, they had waterholes set up to keep the dogs hydrated, and the people rested. It also served as a social area for dogs to meet and sniff...I mean greet.

Santa flew in to help judge the contests, and to make sure all the dogs were being nice. I hear that Santa rents a cottage at Holden Beach during the summer...seems Mrs. Claus loves to shop at the Beach Mart, and go fishing with Santa off the pier.

After the walk there was a great K-9 demo from the sheriff's department. The deputy was very informative and the dog was well behaved in a small, crowded area. It was a great idea, and everyone really enjoyed it.

There was a large Yorkie turnout, and we met some great owners. Oh yeah, there were other dogs there too. Labs, pugs, poodles, you name it, and I think it was there..even a bloodhound.

Even a celebrity was spotted at the show...didn't they write a book about her..you never know who'll show up.

Shiloh makes a break for it, as he walks across the stage...might be why he didn't win. But he did well. considering it was his first time out at any type of show or event. He doesn't travel well in the car, so that limits his availability.

Elsie awaits the judges decision as they watch some of the other dogs. Tinkerbell was very well behaved as she walked across the stage, unlike her Uncle Shiloh (above).

So Tinkerbell Cupcake of Waterside wins "Smallest Dog" certificate and a free nail clipping..just what she loves most...someone messing with her paws. But, seriously, it was a nice prize and we have 4 Yorkies that wrestle like bears, when you try and clip their paws.

It was a great day, a little breezy at times, and we enjoyed meeting all our new friends, seeing all the beautiful dogs, and help raise some money for a great cause.
Maybe next year we'll bring the other dogs and make it a Yorkie family thing..maybe Carly can show how she loves to give hugs...or Patty can snarl for the judges...she is such a crazy dog. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my "tail" of our fun time at "Bark At The Beach". And we'll see everyone next year.

Day 2..No Bloggers Yet, But 2 Visitors.

Well it's day 2 of blog and no readers yet...hopefully, as time goes on we will see some visitors. The two dogs above are Carly on left and her daughter, Tinkerbell, on the right. Tinker won top honers this past weekend in Holden Beach, NC. She was judged as smallest dog, weighing in at at 2-1/2 to 3 pounds. Her award is below.

We help raise over $5000 for Easter Seals, and got to see some beautiful dogs. I believe over 60 dogs were present. Shiloh, Tinker's uncle, also entered but he didn't win a award. But he's still a winner in my eyes.

Here's Carly giving our son-in-law a hug. She will hug you until you thank her for the hug. A very loveable dog indeed.

They do share toys well, and are often playing tug-a-war with each other. We rotate their toys every so often so they think they are getting new ones. My wife has a system that works well and has good results. She really loves our dogs, and takes great care of them, and their fur. She is the groomer of our herd, and weekly grooms our dogs.

Someone sent this to us, so I am passing it on. Now that's a true teacup Yorkie, or is it a coffeecup Yorkie. I once heard a celebrity says she owned a "King Kong" Yorkie, in reference to the large size of dog she had gotten...small or large Yorkies are true lap dogs, and give as much love as they get..maybe more. Well here is the first page of the Waterside Yorkie blog. Where we can post our thoughts, ideas and photos of anything Yorkie. We currently own four beautiful yorkies that range in age from 6 years to one and a half. Three girls and a boy, all related by blood.

Elsie's momma has our oldest dog, Zoe, for companionship and protection. Zoe is the great grandmother of our bloodline. We have two of her offspring, Shiloh and Patty. We then have Carly, who is the daughter of Patty. And the sister of Tucker, who our daughter owns. And last, but not least, we have little Tinkerbell. Who weighs about 3 pounds, and is all love.

We have numerous champions in our bloodlines, on both sides. We are not breeders, but do breed to keep our Yorkie bloodlines going.

Yorkies are indoor dogs, who don't like bad weather. Truely lap dogs, who will love you as much as you love them. They are good family dogs, but aren't toys for the kids to play with. Their size varies, as does their color.
